"That Others May Live"

Meet our Team:

Meet Our Team : Clay Maas

Position : Base Camp Operator, Secretary

K9(s) : N/A

Clay joined in 2005 because his wife Vickie and her K9, General joined and Clay was sure there had to be something for "non-K9" handlers to do. Clay learned about "Base Camp" and because it sounded like a nice clean dry inside out-of-the elements type job he readily volunteered. Little did he know that to be a qualified base camp operator you had to first understand what the K9 handlers go thru in the field. He has taken and passed FEMA 100, FEMA 200, FEMA 700 and FEMA 800 courses, he is SAR Tech III qualified and has also taken and passed a K9 Emergency First Aid course offered by the University of Texas Extension program. Clay is a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician, a Maryland State Emergency Medical Technician and an American Heart Association CPR instructor. Clay's additional duty is MDRD Safety officer. Clay quickly took over the role of organizational Secretary and has held this elected position since 2006. He is responsible for maintaining the meeting minutes for both the General membership and Board of Directors meetings. He eagerly volunteers to carry the MDRD banner in the annual 4th of July parade held in Bel Air Maryland. He enjoys the team work of MDRD and has helped organize the unit's Bull Roast fund raiser. Clay still struggles with map and compass skills and he's not allowed out in the woods by himself, especially after dark.
